The ability to Eskimo roll will greatly increase your paddling confidence and provide an added measure of safety on wilderness journeys. Participate in one-hour pre-pool instruction and two hours on-water course. Recommended: swim mask, or goggles and nose plugs. Bring your own kayak and paddle or rent from Caribou Expeditions ($10.00 + tax).

Course Itinerary

The first hour of each session will be in-class instruction, followed by two hours of pool session.

All you need to bring is bathing suit, towel, goggles, nose plugs (see equipment list below).

  • 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Video and Classroom Instruction

  • 8:30-10:30 pm: Pool Session

    • Practice Hip Flick and Sweep
    • Pawlatta Roll
    • Wet exit
    • C to C Roll
    • Screw Roll

EQUIPMENT YOU SUPPLY

Paddling gear: Swim suit, towel, head strap for glasses, nose plugs and goggles or face mask (recommended)

EQUIPMENT AND SERVICES SUPPLIED BY CARIBOU EXPEDITIONS

Kayak and Accessories: The boats we supply for the course are single person kayaks (Necky). Each kayak comes with: sponge, paddle, pump, whistle, spray skirt, personal flotation device (lifejacket). Please indicate your lifejacket size when you send deposit.

Instructors: Your instructors are experienced sea kayakers with training from the B.C.U. (British Canoe Union) with training in C.P.R. and Wilderness First Aid.
