Caribou-Expeditions Kayak Courses

We offer courses and clinics throughout the summer, and provide training (BCU Levels 3 and 4) as well as CRCA Level 1 “Sea Kayak“. Eskimo Rolling clinics are offered at an indoor pool in Sault Ste. Marie during late winter and spring (call for dates).

C1: Sea Kayaking for Beginners (3 hours) :
Paddling and safety instruction is a necessity if you are new to kayaking and intend to rent. Throughout the summer, we offer half-day courses on Saturdays at Pancake Bay Provincial Park on Lake Superior, and at our base on Goulais Bay

C2: Introduction to Kayaking:
Ready to get your feet wet? This two-day course will teach you the basic elements of equipment, paddling strokes, basic navigation, and rescue techniques.

C3: Wilderness Kayaking:
Course designed for kayak owners with previous experience and training. Includes night navigation, high bracing, eskimo rolling, and surf landings in the wilderness setting of Lake Superior Provincial Park

C4: Eskimo Rolling (3 hours):
The ability to Eskimo roll will greatly increase your paddling confidence and provide an added measure of safety on wilderness journeys. We offer winter pool courses in Sault Ste. Marie with one-hour pre-pool instruction and two hours on-water.

C5: Intro. To Sea Kayaking – Pool Course (9 hours):
Learn to sea kayak in the comfort of a pool.  We cover kayak design and equipment, paddle strokes, rescues (t’rescue, self, rescue, Eskimo roll), and navigation. The nine hour weekend course includes three hours of classroom and six hours of on-water practice in the John Rhodes Pool.
